Bio
Chrissy Renick has been a dynamic force in the St. Louis music scene since 2010, crafting a unique sound that blends jazz sophistication, soulful intimacy, and electronic textures. Originally from Cape Girardeau, MO, Renick moved to St. Louis and quickly made a name for herself as a solo artist, performing with piano, guitar, and voice at local venues. In 2011, she released her debut EP, A Thousand Shades, produced by Andrew Stephen.
Over the next decade, Renick collaborated extensively with St. Louis musicians, performing with groups such as The People’s Key, Analog Thief, and Fresh Heir. Simultaneously, she pursued a Music Therapy degree from Maryville University, where she studied classical voice, piano, and clinical music applications. Her growing interest in jazz led her to Webster University’s Jazz Studies Master’s program, where she honed her skills in voice, piano, improvisation, and arranging under the direction of renowned instructors like Debby Lennon and Carol Beth True.
In 2018, Renick and producer Andrew Stephen launched Sample Kulture, a future-soul duo described as “sewing jazz, electronic, pop, and hip-hop into a warm blankie.” Their debut single, a lo-fi jazz rendition of Summer Breeze (Seals & Crofts), quickly gained local, national, and international attention, earning praise from Jazziz Magazine, Earmilk, and American Songwriter. The duo’s debut LP, Upstairs Headroom (2020), featured an impressive lineup of musicians, including Teddy Brookins, Dhoruba Shakur, Sarpay Özçağatay, Kaspar Jalily, and Jharis Yokley.
Renick’s artistry continued to gain momentum with collaborations such as Read You (2020) alongside Anatole Muster, Shaun Martin (Snarky Puppy), and Rueben Gingrich, as well as a feature on Ryan Marquez’s Saint Unity, a project highlighting St. Louis’ leading female vocalists.
In 2022, Renick began recording her solo EP with producer Drew Mantia. Released in 2024, the project showcases her evolving artistry with contributions from Jesse Gannon, James Williams (Emily King, Amos Lee), Lior Ozeri, Luke Sailor, and Anatole Muster.
Renick continues to explore new musical horizons, blending genres and pushing creative boundaries while staying rooted in jazz and soulful expression. Discover her latest work on streaming platforms and follow her journey as an artist dedicated to authenticity, growth, and connection.
